Being senior editor for Howard TV has a lot of responsibilities -- making sure that two daily shows get done, prepping shows for output, cleaning up pull ups from producers’ paper cuts, and listening to the office gossip from rotating producers, just to name a few. With all that exciting stuff I have to do being a senior editor, one thing never changes, my surroundings. I never get to leave… not even for lunch (sigh). So when Doug Goodstein and Mike Gange asked me to leave the comfort of the edit room to help out on set, I jumped at the chance. They said that the only catch was they didn’t know what I can do outside of the edit room. I figured since I am a guy that they leave so much responsibility to on a daily basis, they can surely come up with a job suited to my skills. I agreed to go. After all the meetings and staff assignments, all they could come up with as a job for me was “TBD.” This must be some sort of production term for something very important like “The Bikini Distributor.” Being new to the field production crew, I accepted my job assignment only to find out that my roll on the Howard TV team would be dramatically different from my daily gig. I went from picking the best shots to picking up garbage, adding swish pans to sweeping the lanes, and scrubbing timelines to scrubbing bowling balls. Lets just say, it’s not what I thought I would be doing. “Anything else Mister Gange ?” “Oh, go pick up those dirty cups. . .Okay!” All in all, it turned out to be a great time and I left feeling more a part of the team. One of the downsides of editing is that the excitement of events is normally gone by the time everyone gets back to the edit room. So, it is great to be part of that. And those jobs no one wants to do or has time to do…they might not be glamorous but they still have to get done. I guess in the end, my job really came down cleaning up after the producers of the Howard TV. You know, I guess it isn’t so different after all!
