I traveled down to Tampa, Florida to film interviews for the Bubba Wedding Special. My first shoot was to start at 11am at Bubba’s studio. I arrived at the studio, which from the outside resembles a dentist’s office; it’s a mustard colored two-story building with no windows. I met up with Bubba’s video producer, Jughead, who led me into Bubba’s lair. I call it a lair because it’s very dark, there’s a torture rack, there are cameras hidden everywhere, and it’s filled with electronics. As I explored more, I saw Bubba’s famous shower, his green room, and his studio. The only way to get into Bubba’s studio is through fingerprint recognition. We’re talking spy movie stuff here. His studio is really dark and cold, but very relaxed. My favorite accessory was the beer machine…Awesome!
The interviews went great and I learned a lot about Bubba and his new wife, Heather. After I was finished, Brent Hatley, Bubba’s Executive Producer, told me I was going to be on the air with Bubba. Jughead approached me with a stack five releases to sign. In retrospect, I should have read them all, but I signed away. I thought I was going to go on the air for like five minutes, plug the Bubba Wedding Special, and then leave. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Little did I know that my boss and Executive Producer of Howard TV, Doug Goodstein, had plotted against me and gave Bubba and his producers a plethora of dirt about my life.
The first thing Bubba got into was my music. He played a couple of my songs and told me that I was crazy and that he’s surprised that I haven’t killed anybody. Then he got into the fact that I have a character I created named Shannon DeSalvo. Yes, it’s a girl, but it’s a joke! If Eddie Murphy can do it so can I! He called me a drag queen and told me I wasn’t allowed to film at his house the following day. Luckily for me, Bubba allowed me to come to his house the next day. Needless to say he had someone take his kids. I interview Bubba and Heather and then I shot a “Bubba Cribs” episode in his beautiful-pimped out house. No lie, he lives like a rap star! You’ll get to see the Bubba Cribs sometime in April.
Well that’s it. Peace Out.
